The State

of the States

New Jersey

The Garden State

Birthplace of Americana rockstars Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, New Jersey is known for its diners, the Sopranos, and its law forbidding motorists from pumping their own gas. Nearly 45% of the state is covered in forest, which offers some explanation as to why New Jersey is more densely populated than China. New Jersey was the site of the greatest number of battles in the Revolutionary War, and was the site of the famed Hamilton-Burr duel that left Alexander Hamilton dead in 1804. New Jersey is one of 14 states where Democrats control the governorship and the state house and senate (also known as a trifecta).
